Everything you need to know about how Trigger Checker works, what we do with your data, and why we built it.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need an account?
No account, no sign-up, no email address. Ever. You open the site, search, and get your answer — that is all there is to it. We deliberately built Trigger Checker so that nothing stands between you and the information you need.
How does it work?
Enter a title and a trigger word or phrase. Trigger Checker queries a range of authoritative data sources simultaneously, cross-references the results against an intelligent expansion engine that understands synonyms and related terms, and returns a clear Yes or No. The whole process runs in seconds. We won't go into the proprietary detail of how the system is built — but it is considerably more sophisticated than a simple keyword search.
Is it anonymous? How is my data used?
Your searches are anonymous. We do not store your name, IP address, or any personally identifiable information. We log the media title and trigger word checked (not who checked it) solely to improve the accuracy of the tool over time. We do not sell data, run advertising targeting, or share anything with third parties. Full details are in our Privacy Policy.
How is Trigger Checker different to similar sites?
Most content-warning sites rely on crowdsourced, user-submitted data. That model has real limitations — it is subject to personal bias, inconsistent standards, and significant gaps for anything outside mainstream titles. Trigger Checker does not use user-submitted data at all.
We also do not force you into a fixed list of categories. Your triggers and phobias are personal — so we let you search for exactly what matters to you, in your own words, rather than making you fit into someone else's predefined boxes. And as noted above: no account required, ever.
What's next for Trigger Checker?
We are always working on expanding coverage, improving accuracy, and adding new media types. The best place to stay up to date is our socials — we post updates, new features, and the occasional behind-the-scenes look at what we are building.
What's the catch?
There is no catch. Trigger Checker is completely free and always will be. It was built to genuinely help people, full stop. Running the site does cost money — hosting, APIs, and the hours that go into maintaining it all add up. If it has been useful to you and you want to help keep the lights on, the Ko-fi button below lets you contribute whatever you like. No pressure, no paywall.
Every contribution, however small, goes directly towards keeping this site running.
