About
A free mental health resource — built with care.
The tool
Trigger Checker is your go-to resource for identifying triggers and phobias in movies and TV shows. Using our search functionality, you can find any film or series and check whether it contains content that may be personally distressing — before you commit to watching.
Our unique approach analyses actual review content to determine whether a specific trigger word or phrase is present in discussions of that title. This means results are grounded in real audience responses, not just genre labels or age ratings.
Beyond trigger checking, the site also functions as a parental guidance tool and a phobia alert system — helping parents, carers, and anyone with specific sensitivities make more informed viewing choices. We strive to keep the information accurate and up to date, and your privacy is always protected.
Trigger Checker is, and will always remain, a completely free resource.
How it started
The idea for Trigger Checker had been forming for some time. The concept was simple: a place where people could search for triggers specific to them — not broad content warnings, but their own personal triggers.
At the time, no website fulfilled this purpose with any real depth. The existing options relied on user-submitted data, which is difficult to verify and tends to reflect only the most common experiences, overlooking more nuanced or personal triggers entirely.
The idea crystallised when friends would frequently ask, before watching a film together, whether it contained certain difficult content — assault, grief, specific phobias. The only way to find out was through extensive and often fruitless Googling. There had to be a better way.
Once the idea was clear, the hard part was making it a reality — but here we are.
What's next
There are plenty of exciting ideas in the pipeline. Keep an eye on the site and the blog for updates — and if you have suggestions, feedback, or just want to say hello, the contact page is always open.
Please consider Trigger Checker as a free mental health resource, built for anyone who needs it.
